My Experience with Qatar Airways Baggage Allowance: A Traveler’s Story
Last year, I had the opportunity to fly with Qatar Airways for the first time on a trip from Amman to Tokyo, with a layover in Doha. I’d heard great things about the airline’s service, but what really stood out to me—even before I stepped onto the plane—was their generous and flexible baggage policy.
As someone who tends to overpack (yes, I’m that person with three jackets for a summer trip), I was initially worried about excess baggage fees. But once I checked Qatar Airways baggage allowance online, I was pleasantly surprised. For my Economy Class ticket, I was allowed 30 kg of checked baggage, which gave me plenty of room to bring everything I needed—including a few gifts for friends in Japan.
The check-in process at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman was smooth. The staff didn’t rush me and were kind enough to help rearrange a few items when my bag was slightly overweight. I didn’t have to pay any extra because I was still within the total weight limit, even though I had two bags instead of one.
What impressed me most was that Qatar Airways uses a weight concept for most international routes, which means you’re allowed to distribute the total weight between multiple bags. That was a lifesaver. On my return trip, I bought souvenirs, clothes, and even a small tea set from Tokyo. I thought I’d have to leave something behind—but again, as long as I stayed under 30 kg, I was good to go.
The whole experience took the stress out of packing and flying. For travelers like me who don’t want to compromise on what they carry, Qatar Airways' baggage allowance felt fair and flexible.
